Commercial Fire 11-15-07

Truck Co. 6, Truck Co. 4, Rescue 6, Rescue 1, Engine 3, Engine 4, Battalion 6, Chief 1, Chief 6, DC6 responded to a commercial fire in the downtown district of FWB. The fire was burning in mechanical room and extended to the 2nd floor. Truck 6 and Rescue 6 made entry into the structure utilizing rope search lines while looking for the fire. Once the fire was located about 150 ft in on side 2, the Captain of the Rescue called for a line to that side. Due to the room involved having major electrical components, water was withheld until the power was secured. Firefighters battled the blaze with dry chems and kept the fire contained to the room of origin and a small part of the 2nd floor. No firefighters were injured and units operated under the command of Battalion Chief David Messerschmidt.

FWBFD Firefighters train to use search ropes in an effort to stay oriented in a commercial structure that way if everything goes to hell in a hand basket, we have a way out! Two search rope lines were utilized to assist with locating the fire.
