Beal Pkwy-MVA with Entrapment 06-18-07

B-Shift Engine Co. 6, Rescue 6 & Battalion 6 responded to an MVA with possible entrapment. Upon arrival, the response quickly escalated to Engine Co. 3, Engine Co. 11, DC6, Gulf Flight, two EMS units and a EMS supervisor. A small compact vehicle was reported to be traveling at a high rate of speed loosing control of his vehicle and crossing the center line virtually hitting head on of a cargo truck at the trucks rear tandems ripping the wheels from the truck and severely damaging the compact vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was thrown from the drivers seat into the truck of his car while the passenger remained in the passengers seat-City Firefighter/Paramedics called trauma alerts on both pts. Both occupants were trapped. Firefighters had to use extrication tools to remove the trunk of the vehicle to remove the driver who was unconscious and unresponsive. The passenger door had to be removed to free the other occupant. The driver was flown of to a trauma center in Pensacola and is listed in critical condition; the passenger to FWB Medical Center. The driver of the cargo truck was not hurt. FWBFD received assistance from Mary Esther FD & Ocean City-Wright FD. Units operated under the command of FWB Battalion Chief David Messerschmidt.
