Battalion Chief Gene Large has been with the FWBFD for 15 years. Gene is 47 years old and
started the fire service in 1979 at Florosa FD (west end hwy 98) and was Chief for 5 years. He also pent 3
years at OCW before starting here in 1991. Chief Large is a member of Okaloosa Special Operations Hazmat (Tech), Rope
Rescue/high angle, and Confined space Teams. He is also Wildfire certified, Fusar Team Leader, Honor Guard member, and is
Ocean Water Rescue certified where he works part time as a member of Destin FD Beach Service. Chief is also a avid Harley
rider( 2007 Ultra Classic FF/edition and a dog named Harley!), Family man( two girls), new grandpa!, and a boating enthusiast(
Gene spent 20 years at AUER marine). Chief Large plans on working towards retirement and riding his bike as much as possible!
