City Firefighters Have Close Call. A little after 2pm on C-Shift Engine
6 got toned out to a possible structure fire off Hwy 98. Engine 6 and Rescue 6 got on scene to find a fully involved structure
fire. With the help of Okaloosa Special Operations, Okaloosa Island Fire, and Ocean City Wright firefighters and equipment
the fire was extinguished. No one was hurt and "Everyone Went Home!" Firefighters had a close call with a live power-line
dropping on an engine and severing a hoseline. Click here for details or see "Recent Runs". For the Florida Daily News story and video click here

Monday March 19th MVA with House FireIf "C" Shift didn't get enough excitment marching through the smoldering woods all day on
Sunday, at about 3:30am they get the wake up call for more fun. This time in Ocean City Wright's district. Apparently
there was a Sport Utility Vehicle who left the roadway and hit a house, burst into flames which caught the house on fire.
Ocean City Wright Units called for Engine 7 and Engine 6 to assist them. Needless to say it was an exciting "C"
Shift.

Sunday March 18th Brush Fire in Mary EsterEngine 6 responded to a brush fire in the area of Hollywood Blvd and Ready Ave. Engine 6 used the deck gun
mounted on top of the apparatus to try and contain a finger of the fire which was moving north. Engine 7 and Batallion Chief
6 also responded to this area. Engine 7 and Batallion 6 set up a master stream on the north side to try and contain the fire.
Also on scene was units from Mary Ester, Ocean City Wright, Florosa, Hurlbert, Eglin, Jackson Guard, the Department of Forestry,
and Holly-Navarre. Jackson Guard and the Department of Forestry used heavy equipment to cut a fire line around the fire, and
began to back burn. Around 7pm most units were loaded back up and being released.

A message from the President, Shannon R. Stone Shannon's term as president
ends this June.
Thanks to all the members for the continued support I received
during my two terms as president of Local 2601. I feel we have made great progress during that time and it could not have
been accomplished without the support of each member and the E-Board. It has been an honor to serve the men and women
of IAFF Local 2601.
ELECTIONS for a new President will be held in JUNE 2008. Anyone interested should
contact an E-Board member ASAP.

Please remove all IAFF markings
from your vehicle when selling, trading-in, etc. The IAFF logo is universally known and respected and identifies both them
and their family members as part of an elite profession and connected to Organized Labor. IAFF decals and emblems should not be given or sold to any individuals or non-family members who are not IAFF members.
What you perceive to be a friendly gesture may be viewed by a police officer as illegal. Police in some states have interpreted
the displaying of an IAFF or fire department logo by individuals who are not firefighters or the immediate family member of
a firefighter as impersonating a firefighter, which is illegal in most states.
DO THE RIGHT THING. REMOVE IAFF DECALS WHEN DISPOSING
OF A MOTOR VEHICLE IN ANY WAY.
Have something to say? Suggestions? We want your input!
Let us know by filling out the box below & we'll get back to ya! IAFF 2601
